Rev. Dr. Denny
Wayman
Welcome to the Free Methodist Church of Santa Barbara!
We are a warm fellowship of believers whose mission is to “win
people to Christ, establish them in their faith and equip them
for ministry.” Our means for accomplishing this great
mission is to do so by being people of prayer, blessing and service.
From the beginning of my ministry at this church, we have been
blessed with great opportunities to love, pray for, bless and
serve the Santa Barbara community. The ministries of the Free
Methodist Church work hand-in-hand with the weekday ministries
provided through Cliff Drive Care Center. These address the daily
needs of people around us, as well as those within the church,
and are as diverse as preschool and childcare ministries, senior
adult fellowships and catered luncheons, as well as a professional
Christian counseling center available to all on an affordable
sliding scale fee basis. God has blessed Cheryl and I with the
fulfillment of our hearts’ desires to minister as a team
together, using our energies and God-given gifts to serve Him.

Cheryl Wayman, MFT
Welcome! If you are looking for a loving family of God with an
active ministry of serving others, you have come to the right
place! The Santa Barbara Free Methodist Church felt immediately
like “home” to me, though I grew up in Florida. And
it fulfilled a 20-year dream to begin Cliff Drive Christian Counseling
Center as Clinical Director. There are so many things that I love
about partnering our church with the vital programs of our weekday
ministries through Cliff Drive Care Center including: sharing
the love of Jesus every day of the week with those in the community
who aren’t necessarily a part of a church body, offering
quality services that meet real human needs (like child care,
senior socialization and counseling) from a Christian perspective,
and partnering with other committed Christians (both professional
and volunteer) with hearts to serve others in Jesus’ Name.
I am honored and humbled, happy and fulfilled to serve God in
this place with these partners in ministry!

Greetings and welcome to our church.
I still remember the day I received a phone call from our Senior
Pastor, Denny Wayman. I had to pull out a map to locate Santa
Barbara. What began as a short term "leap of faith" for two transplants
turned into long term minstry for a happy family of five. Santa
Barbara is a wonderful place to call home but our church is even
more wonderful. I am honored to help shepherd this community of
faith and to in turn be loved and cared for by a loving group
of people. Here you will find many opportunities for growth, equipping
and reaching others with the Good News of Jesus Christ!

Hello! What you will see first about
the Free Methodist church is that this is a loving body of believers
who genuinely cares about each person. This warmth is evident
at all levels of the church. The next thing you will see is that
there is a lot going on! There are numerous opportunities for
people to grow in their faith, which is my primary responsibility.
We encourage discipleship, small groups, adult Sunday school,
fellowship and service. In addition, this church is active in
the community. We believe that living out one's faith in Christ
in the world is what we are called to do. We invite you to join
us in worship and we look forward to meeting you! Thank you for
checking out our church online. Finding a church that is the right
fit for you or for your family is an important aspect in one's
faith journey. May you know God's wisdom as you choose a place
to worship. God bless you!

León , Assistant Pastor of Spanish-Speaking Ministries |

Hola, I am Dennis León and I
am responsible to start a Spanish Speaking Congregation. I also
help in the Sunday worship services in English as an assistant pastor.
I became part of the staff of the Santa Barbara Free Methodist Church
in September 2003. Additionally, I have a close affiliation with
the local chapter of Christian
Surfer's Association.
Biography:
I was born and raised in Costa Rica. As the youngest of six with
a single mom, I did not live in too much luxury. I grew up in Esterillos
Oeste, a little town with a population of 350 people with only one
church and five bars.
After I finished elementary school I had to work on vacations and
weekends to attend high school. I graduated from Jaco Tecnical Touristic
School. Now I am continuing my education at Santa Barbara City College
and my goal is to earn a MDiv degree from Azusa Pacific University’s
Haggard School of Theology.
I met my wife Kyle in June 1999 and we were married in August 2002.
My wife was born and raised in Santa Barbara and has attended Santa
Barbara Free Methodist Church since childhood. She is currently
finishing her bachelors degree in communications with a minor in
Spanish at Wesmont College and she will graduate in December of
2004. After she graduates we hope to start a family. She also is
the church’s Child Care Director.
For both of us it is a privilege and a joy to serve the Lord here.

“Raise a child up in the
way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.”
Childhood experiences profoundly influence adulthood, so we welcome
the chance to share some of those formative experiences with your
children. Having led gifted faculty and volunteers in numerous
schools and churches, I am honored to lead the wonderful and diverse
group of Free Methodist Church volunteers and staff serving this
community’s children with loving care, wisdom, good humor
and creative talent. Whether soothing an infant, singing with
a kindergartner or enacting a bible story with a fifth grader,
our teachers and aides experience the privilege of showing the
face of Christ to these young ones. Together, we grow in the grace
and knowledge of God as we explore scripture and apply it to our
lives through story, study, song, drama, art and music. Remember
those special adults who, when you were young, influenced you
through their service and instruction? We have many just like
that here, and we invite you to be a part of this vital ministry
to the next generation. Our education hour is at 9:30, with child
care available at all Sunday services. Come join us!
